IRC, or Internet Relay Chat is one of the many ways to
comunicate with poeple around the world.
There are many IRC networks today, some are quite big and others
small.
If you are interested you can visit www.mirc.co.uk to find
out about mIRC, the program I use for IRC.
I'm usually found on DalNet.
Her's some quick help for those who don't like to read thrugh
long texts(tough mIRC's help is quite good).
After you install mIRC, and run it, follow these steps(all in
the "mIRC Options" dialog box):
- Enter you're name and E-Mail(They don't have to be real,
you can make them up).
- Choose a nickname & a second nickname in case the
first one is already taken.
- In Connect/IdentD, make up a User ID(in case you're ISP
don't have an IdentD servrice) and check the 'Enable
Ident Server' box
- Go back to 'Connect' and push the 'Connect to IRC Server'
button
- In the case the nick you chosen is taken, use the '/nick newnick'
command to shoose a new one.
- To join a channel(Chat Room) type '/j ChannelName'.
All channels begin with the '#' sign.
- If you're really lost, just join #ircnewbies and someone
will help you.
